Travel: Europe

Paris at night

Among the places in Europe, Paris is the most visited capital because of the superb attractions it offers. Most people associate Paris as the fashion capital of the world; however, there’s more to it than that. Paris is home to renowned tourist spots as well. Approximately 30 million tourists travel to this place that’s located along the River Seine. I’m sure that for most visitors, their first stop in Paris is the Eiffel Tower. This is the tallest and most recognizable structure in Paris, France standing at 325 meters, and antenna at 24 meters. Its height is equal to a building with 81 levels. In order to reach the top, one can buy a lift ticket or a stair ticket. With the stairs as choice, it’s going to be a challenging climb, but still a fun one at that!

cologne cathedral

Cologne – yup, when I read about this country I didn’t really know how to pronounce it. It is spelled like Eau de Cologne, so probably it’s pronounced in the same way as well. And I was right. So, Cologne is the fourth largest city in Germany. If you live in this place or have traveled in this city, you’re very lucky because you’ve seen some of the most amazing sights in the world. If you’ve been to Cologne then you shouldn’t have missed the magnificent Cathedral and the Twelve Romanesque Churches. Mind you, you’ll get dizzy traipsing through 30 Museums and hundreds of galleries. But these are part of everything that Cologne has to offer.

Ibiza beaches

Summertime is drawing near once again, and that means it’s party time again and some more fun in the sun! Do you have an itinerary at this time? No? Well it’s time you draw up one. Here, let me make a suggestion, why not target Spain? Spain’s climate is excellent during summer and it has gorgeous islands to boast about, one of them is Ibiza. Maybe this is the first time you’ve heard of this place. Well, this is located in the Mediterranean Sea as one of the Balearic Islands in Spain. First time I heard this name mentioned was in an upbeat song…saying they were going to Ibiza, the place where the party never ends! Ibiza is the place if you are looking for undisputed fun on a sultry island. It is the place where you can party to your heart’s content since there are numerous clubs that never run out of hot bands, jazzy DJ's and wide range of music choices. And you’ll never go hungry in Ibiza because there are lots of restaurants that offer variety of food stuff.

Nice

There are still a lot of beautiful places in Europe that many of us only dream of. One of the places that I would love to reach someday is Nice. Well, wouldn’t it just be so nice to stay in a place called Nice? Its name alone seems to be a good omen already. So where is this place? Nice is located South of Paris and Northeast of well-know Cannes. Nice is also well known by itself because it is the most accessible place whether you’re from Italy, Monaco, Cannes or Marseille. Aside from that, there are also great things to see.

Istanbul

Turkey is one of those countries that half in Europe and half in Asia but I have to say it’s the most beautiful country you can find and has an amazing combination of culture and modernity. The first thing that hit me when I got there was how proud and nationalistic people, they have flags with the pictures of the man who gave them their independence! Aside from the pride the people there are welcoming and always seem to have a smile on their faces they don’t think of you as a tourist they think of you as a guest and you get to experience their amazing hospitality!

Venice

The month of hearts is almost upon us once again. Ohhhh … what it is to be in love and be with the one you love on Valentine’s day. February 14 is the day that a lot of sweethearts and couples look forward to. Personally, I think nothing will beat the feeling of holding hands with the one you love on this very day in a very romantic setting. I know there are a lot of romantic settings to be found in the world, but for me one of the most romantic cities in the world is Venice, in Italy. And if you remember this is the place of Casanova – Gian Giacomo Girolamo Casanova, the most romantic figure who ever existed.

Guernsey

Do you have the urge to be one with nature again? Yet still don’t want to be completely cut off from the general flow of things, Guernsey might be just the place you are looking for. This place can offer you the best of worlds. Its wholly natural cliff paths, magnificent panorama, romantic beaches and rural ambiance will cater to your craving for everything natural. The uniqueness of this place will just take your breath away.

Seville Cathedral

One of the amazing characteristics of Spanish people is their love for feasts and celebrations. This characteristic is greatly shown by the hundreds of fiestas being held each year in every town. Most of these are religious in nature, but these attract millions of tourists every year, regardless of their religion. Spain is in fact the second most-visited country in the world next to France.

Spain offers a lot for beach enthusiasts, the artistically inclined and those with passion for history and culture, but Spain also offers avenue for a lot of other fun-filled activities like hiking, white water rafting, sailing, surfing, skiing and windsurfing.

Battistero

Summer isn’t over yet but autumn isn't far away. If you wish to travel this autumn, you better start planning your trip now. Well if you haven’t decided where to go yet, here’s a suggestion: Florence, Italy! Autumn is a great time to visit this enchanting Italian city, especially from September till October when crowds are fewer and temperature is so mild. Autumn is definitely a perfect time to explore the narrow streets of Florence and breathe its rich Renaissance atmosphere. If you want to learn Italian language, Florence is also the perfect place to go to as modern Italian is based on the Florentine dialect.

We woke up this morning to the sounds of the surf at Ross Lare Harbor's youth hostel. Clean, roomy, and conveniently located, the hostel is adequate for a brief stay. We slept in till check out and had to hurry into the village for an Irish breakfast: fresh tomatoes, fruit, a variety of breads, eggs, and bacon.

We chose Ross Lare because of its location: halfway between yesterday's location -- Waterford-- and today's destination -- Glenalough. In Waterford, we enjoyed the crystal factory, which was truly interesting. I bought a lovely one-of-a-kind pedastal fruitbowl. They shipped it home for me with no cost. After a two hour drive north, we found that St. Kevin's church at Glendalough was not open; nevertheless, we were able to take some very neat photos from the cemetery's edge. We drove to the village of Wicklow, where we stayed in a lovely B&B (The Arch House) run by Gerry and Hillary McGown. What a lovely family, home, and location. When we looked out our bedroom window, we could see a panoramic view of the harbor, the old village, and a large area of new homes under construction -- evidence of Ireland's current economic surge...

Hot Spring Colonnade in Karlovy Vary

A few years ago, i traveled around Europe for a couple of weeks and i loved it!
One the places that really took my breath away, was the Czech Republic.
Now to be specific, there is one place in particular that i thought was great, and perfect for relaxation; Karlovy Vary.
Karlovy Vary, or Karlsbad is the most famous Bohemian spa, with its 13 main and about 300 smaller springs. Its name comes from the Bohemian king Charles IV who allegedly found the springs in 1358 during a hunting trip.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Kissing the Blarney Stone, walking down Dublin's Parnell Street, standing at the Cliffs of Mohr, and savoring the Guinness in Bono's Kitchen will remain in my heart forever. Ireland is truly a magical destination, easy to navigate and affordable on any budget. Each village has its own history, its own façade, and newly-discovered strengths...

Silifke, Turkey

Looking for a true adventure? As a young boy of thirteen, I lived near Adana, Turkey. The year was 1967 and my favorite place in the entire world back then was Silifke, a small town on the Mediterranean Sea that boasted not one, but two Crusader castles. One commanded a shore position between two white sand beaches; the second was perched atop a small island off-shore. We spent as much as a week at a time camped on the beach in our trusty Volkswagen camper. Dad relaxed, Mom made sure we had food, and my brothers and I explored the castle by the sea.

Torino 2006

Hosting the 2006 Winter Olympics is a feather in Torino’s alpine cap! It’s hard to describe the electricity of enthusiasm and excitement that infects a city hosting the Olympics, but I had the delightful opportunity of doing just that when Salt Lake City hosted them in February 2002. Virtually everyone comes alive and joins the party—like a two week Mardi Gras that will descend upon the city February 10-26, 2006.
