If you want fresh air and a vast expanse of greenery, the dense jungle of Lima, Peru is the place that will give it to you. Your trek to the Peruvian jungle can commence at the inland seaport called Iquitos. From this place you can immediately proceed to the exciting Amazon basin. From this point you will witness another wonder of the world in the form of the Amazon River – the largest river on earth with 7 million cubic feet emptying from it in one minute and its length is 6,400km or 4,000 miles.

Being rich in tropical rainforests makes Peru a great habitat of wild flora and fauna. If you want to see rare species of animals, plants and insects the Amazon rainforest is the best place to be. Because of the diversity of the plant life found here, ¼ of the medicine ingredients used come from this place. Just a little trivia, did you know that the Amazon rainforest is one of the biggest contributors of the most elemental substance that keeps us alive? I mean oxygen! 20% of the oxygen that comprise the earth comes from this part. Once you’re in the rainforest, don’t forget to try walking through the Canopy Walkway. Hanging over a hundred feet from the ground makes it one of the longest treetop walkways in the world.

There are some package tours being offered if you really want to get to know the heart of the Amazon. Once you get there and though you’re rarin’ to explore the place, it is not wise to just go into the jungle by yourself, its better to get in touch with native guides who can give tips about jungle survival.
