Chon buri Buffalo Races – This is an exciting event happening in Chon Buri, Thailand on a day before the full moon of the eleventh lunar month, which can either be October or November. During this festival, water buffaloes, which are used by the natives in farming, are adorned with cloth bands and other embellishments before they are used in various competitions including buffalo fancy dressing contest!
Dashain Festival – For many this festival may not be very exciting—they’d probably call it not just weird but gory! But for people of Nepal, this festival is the most important, the longest and the grandest of all their celebrations. It’s a celebration of their goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahisasura. During the festival, they worship her through various pujas, bloody animal sacrifices and dances. Slaughtered buffaloes, sheep, goats and other animals and Durga’s image drenched in blood would be a usual sight. The Nepalese believe that through these offerings, Durga will bless them. It is also during this time, when families gather. Nepalese visit their elders receive blessing from them.

Dussehra or Vijay Dashmi Festival – This is a ten-day celebration and one of the most important Hindu festivals celebrated throughout India. During the celebration, Ramlila, which is based on the Ramayana epic, is staged in different cities and towns with grand rituals. Ramayana is also recited during the staging of the Ramlila. To depict the victory of the good over evil, large paper monsters stuffed with fireworks are raised and set fire to by Rama. This event is a colorful festival that offers a unique blend of India’s music, dances, poetry, acting and religion.
