Siargao Island, the Ultimate Surfing Destination

Even an ardent surfer from Hawaii says he’ll go all the way to Siargao just to surf. This island, located at the southern edge of the Philippines is the surfing capital of the country and indeed, home of some of the best waves in the world.

The town of General Luna is where most foreign and local surfers go. It is famous for “Cloud 9,” considered as one of the toughest breaks in the world. Surfing is best here from July to November as the waves are stronger.

Siargao Island

If you think that Siargao is only for surfers, you’re wrong. The peaceful island facing the Pacific Ocean offers just everything recreational and adventurous—island hopping, diving, fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, caving, etc.

Siargao island may be a be too far for some—you would have to travel for about seven hours from Manila to reach this island, which is situated 800-km southeast of the country’s capital—but all the wait, and the tiring and long travel by air, land and sea are part of the thrill and adventure. They make you long for the waves of Siargao even more.

In addition, I think there’s no such thing as “too far” for someone with oozing wanderlust and love for adventure, right?
