Lebanon is one of the many countries in the middle east where civilizations meet.
Its land is full of places that tell the story of time; Tyre, Sidon, Baalback, Byblos and the capital Beirut.
Beirut, with its million-plus inhabitants, conveys a sense of life and energy that is immediately apparent. A city with a venerable past, 5,000 years ago Beirut was a prosperous town on the Canaanite and Phoenician coast. Beirut survived a decade and a half of conflict and so has earned the right to call itself “the City that could not die”.
Lebanese cuisine is famous world-wide, like the famous hors- d'oeuvres known as mezze. A good mezze has 30 or 40 dishes, but feasts with as many as 100 dishes have been recorded. And when in Lebanon, it's wise to dedicate an entire afternoon to the authentic Lebanese lunch. Some delicacies are always present in a mezze, including the internationally known tabboule salad.
Lebanon is one of the few winter sports centers in the Middle East and certainly the most extensive. The Skiing season begins in December and continues until April in a winter landscape surprising in its variety and beauty.
There is something for everyone in Lebanon, it serves all tastes and satisfies them all.
GOD BLESS YOU LEBANON YOU ARE TRULY AMAZING
i'm lebanese but i was born in australia and all my life i've lived in australia but soon i'm going to lebanon for the first time, all of my family have been there and always bring back beautiful things from lebanon like photos home videos etc,at the moment there is nowhere in the world i'd rather be or go than to lebanon,i think that there it's paradise and beauty that people need to notice.as i am lebanese i dont think that lebanese are rascist ,you must have some real issues about the lebanese or you must be the one who is rascist(sad)becuase i living at the moment in australia here it's the australians who some are very racial about everthing unless you look like an australian, but all nationalities here are sometimes able to deal with some of the discrimination.
anyways i cant wait for the day i am going to lebanon. god bless lebanon.
I have most of my life in Australia, but Lebanon embodies so many different things to me. I am so proud of being a Lebanese, I drive my friends nuts talking about it and showing them a different side of Lebanon they have never seen. It is amazing the difference sides of Lebanon you find when you go there. I LOVE LEBANON. TO SOME ARABS WHO HAVE THE WRONG IDEA ABOUT LEBANON, AND TO SOME LEBS WHO GIVE LEBANON A BAD NAME, I TELL WHAT GIBRAN KHALIL GIBRAN SAID.
YOU HAVE YOUR LEBANON AND I HAVE MINE.
Lebanese people love life and love freedom, They seek it and most have given their blood for it, I can not wait until Lebanese find their feet again to prosper even more. We as immigrants have given so much to the world, from fashion designers dressing the rich and famous, nobel prize winners, ceo's actors poets the lots. It saddens me that a bunch of kids whether through their bad words or their bad actions overshadow all that.
MAN LEBANON ROCKS.

ONE MORE THING, it shows how much you do not care but you keep coming back and posting.
"Lebanon, Home of the Phoenicians" music to my ears ... finally ture words written. God bless Lebanon and every body else.
This sounds a bit racist to me ...
Everything change, the egyptians are not pharoes anymore.
The Lebanese are no longer phoenicians.
And the Iraqi are no longer assyrians.
Accept it ...
Hello to all of u my fellow Lebanese friends. I too am a Lebanese bought up in Australia. I am soory Hey Hey to say this, but how can we deny that we are Phoenicians when it defines who we are, our culture and our entire history, our entire existence? It is like saying, "my parents gave birth to me, but they are not really my parents anymore!" How is that possible?
Anyway, guys I was actually on my way to Lebanon last Thursday (I was at the airport in Australia) with my bags packed when the airport told us that Beruit airport was closed. I cried for days. How could anyone hurt my beloved country I thought?.... It crushed me. Yes, I am Australian, but I am also Lebanese. As u my friends have so beautifully stated, "my Lebanon" depicts for me, Heaven on earth, my haven. It gives me back a bit of what I missed out on not groing up there. It gives me back some insight of my mother who no longer lives in this world after she gave up her fight with Cancer... but she never gave up her fight and love for her home country, Lebanon.
Do not despair my friends, as I have in the past few days. There is hope. Lebanon will never die. God bless and protect our beautiful country. I have heard from relatives that people who live in the South of Lebanon and who are affected by what is going on the most, are fleeing and hiding with those who live in the North of Lebanon. Our people are united, together and helping each other in times of need. How can anyone take away a country that is so united!!!
God bless Lebanon, its people, its beautiful.
God bless.
No having phoenician origin (for some of the population) doesn't define lebanese.
I cant explain this differently maybe it will make it clearer.
Countries are formed in different ways, in American for example, there are black people (a.k.a African Americans). Some american may hate how african-american act. But they cant say that these are not part of america. Also I add those african americans are also not part of africa!!!
They not really africans, they are americans!
Its extremely racist to call them african american, they are not african, yes they are of african descent, but they are not african.
Over time, lebanon change, people came other left, culture changed, origins changed, you now have ppl from different origins.
The culture, is a mix between oreintal arabic, and americanization.
The most popular language is arabic, yes lebanese earned the right to be called arabic, or arabs, because they speak it, thing in it, and mingle with others who do.
This is lebanon today, its not phoenician anymore.
If you want phonician, if you are so ashamed of what you have today, dig their graves.
Live in the present, wake-up, lebanon have changed, yes as KHALIL GIBRAN said, you have your lebanon and I have mine.
But my arabic-americanized lebanon, is something real, that many ppl share, and deal with.
Your lebanon, is a never was, a dream! something fake, racist and ... I dont like it, thank God its just a dream in your head.
Emotions can be deceaving ... sorry to disapoint you, but, there is no place for racism in the present lebanon, enough damage was done, we dont need those dreamy racist, they better stay where they are, in australia, or USA or wherever they are now. Please dont come, this is not your home anymore, this is no home for racist ...
There is *nothing* wrong with loving one's own race and being prooud of it. Those who point accusative fingers and cry "racist" are guilty of ignorance and hypocrisy, and are in fact usually the ones who try to reserve superiority for their own. RACISM is a beautiful and natural feeling, and is not to be sadly confused with hatred for OTHER races. You can love and have a favrotie race and just leave the others be. It's not a contest. It is not human to pretend the "politically correct" agenda that is a false coverup. Jews cry "racism!" but ye consder themselves superior to others. That's fine if they don't themselves leave out others or try to destroy other cultures and races. African-Americans, same thing. They call out "racism" et have the "Black Music Awards" and the "Negro College Fund." What if there were a "White College Fund"? WELL, there should be no porblem because racism is beautiful What is ugly is "hatred" of other races. NOT the same thing as LOVE or preference of a race.
The definition of racism is: "1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to other." Differences are beautiful and exist. At the same time, the things that are the same in all people are they tears and laughter, that is beyond race, that is the heart and soul.
Oh and another thing...Lebanon is an AWESOME country with an AWESOME history. It is to be respected and understood. This is a great post and a great article and there should be more of this kind of thing, that shares the greatness of cultures and of races. All the different things that each difference contributes is the beauty of all humanity. I am not Lebanese but am grateful to have read this and understand better. This is the cradle of civilization. Shopping malls and vulagrity will never replace that grace, no matter how "powerful and cool" they may TEMPORARILY appear. Because what Lebanon provided goes to the core of all human beings. with love, J
Dear Jennifir,
Racism is always a bad thing, racism means that I prefer a certain person over the other NOT because of who he really is (how he think, what he does, his contribution to the world) but because of his RACE (who his parents was)
This is bad.
Plus there is many problems, over time, and with immigration races change.
In lebanon, even race wise unless the lebanese were extremely racist and didnt mary outside their race, the race purity must have changed.
African-American, now, africa is a huge continent, they are not all the same race, yes they are all mostly black, but not all the same race, berbers are africans, and they are not even black.
So the term african american used to refer to a race is hugely misleading, even from a race point of view
So over time a race is lost, and all it leave us is prejudice, you prefer a certain person, because of his visual traits, you assume he come from a certain race and you consider him a better person.
So go on, rank races if you want, I prefer not to consider races.
Yes I love diversity, black is pretty, asian is pretty, arian, caucasian (presumably caucasian are the best race, the top of rank), circassian etc ...
But just because you belong to race, doesnt mean I will like you more, plus, the main point, races change over time due to ppl movement from one part of earth to the other, and new races are born, it will be hard to find ur race!
There is no
superior" race. But there are races and there is othign wrong with lovng it. HWhen traveling people always gather and are happy to say "Hey anyone here Japanese?" or "Italian?" or whatever. A person is not their race. A person should not be judged by their race. but it is perfecting fine to love a race, it's customs, and the truth is everyone LOVES THEIR OWN RACE!! It is not the same as judgingor hating other races to love your own race, and there is nothing wrong with being proud of our race.
It's funny how it's "politically correct" to be
"proud to be black"
but not
"proud to be white"
It's fine to wear teeshirts that say "Happy Italian girl"
but not "Happy Arab, Cradle of Culture"
or whatever.
Hey Hey, I dont know who the hell u are, but dont u get it??? it is because we are PROUD of being Lebanese, we are proud of EVERYTHING in our culture. Not parts of it. I LOVE that I am Lebanese.... I love its PAST, present and FUTURE. In order to know where u are going, u need to know where u have come from!
I LOVE being Lebanese and I am sorry u do not feel the same passion I do.
As one of my fellow friends said here, I have NOT created the racism comments... u have! Where in my comment did I mention anything racists about my own kind. Dont put your dirty thoughts on me. ALL I was saying is that our race is united... your comments are trying to make a distinction!
When will people like u never give???
HEY_HEY
Trying to be a wise as* and showing us that you know what you are talking about and you are not biased and all that cr*p was a good try.
But I guess the ladies Jennifer & Carol Australia made quite clear about 'Lebanon, Home of the Phoenicians' not the article but the idea. I do not need to add anything to that because Lebanon with it's Past (Phoenician), Present(Phoenician) and Future(Phoenician) would still be my country that I will always love.
And by the way mate, Egypt is still the land of Pharoes, Lebanon that of the Phoenicians, and Iraq that of Assyrians, and they will still hold the culture and if you do not accept your past then I feel sorry for you mate.
This Arabism and Arabic Language and Culture is nothing but a big joke that political leaders use an excuse to say that 'we stand with each other' while stabbing each other in the back, beacuse if the 'arab unity' (as a general concept) was true, then where are your precious arab leaders aiding their 'brothers'.
That little piece was just a tad bit inaccurate..Beirut, 60-70 years ago was nothing more than a village with a couple thousand inhabitants, it was never a city...
