Tech N Gadgets: Toshiba

What?! Another skinny laptop? Toshiba thinks you still can’t get enough of Apple’s Macbook Air and Samsung’s P200 Ultrathin Laptop that is why it came up with its own version of a slim laptop. Introducing the new ultraportable Portege R500-S5007V! Could this new slim laptop take the market by storm just like the MacBook Air did? Well, let’s take a look at what it has to offer.

At its thinnest point the Portege R500 measures 0.77-inches and weighs just 2.4 lbs. This is really thinner compared to the MacBook Air. It features a widescreen 12.1-inch transreflective LED backlit display that absorbs sunlight and uses it to make the screen images show up better. It has an SSD that can hold up to 128GB of data.

Toshiba Dynabook SS RX

Toshiba has something new that will make you stand in amazement. Unlike Apple’s MacBook Air and Lenovo’s ThinkPad X300, the Toshiba Dynabook SS RX notebook is not thin, but mind you this provides something that is more crucial than good looks. The Dynabook SS RX is a very competitive notebook that carries within its system an 80GB standard hard drive and an optional 128GB SSD. This optional storage capacity is a far cry from the 64GB SSD of the MacBook Air and ThinkPad X300. Those who want a massive storage space will definitely go for this, so it will be a big help for the sales of this notebook.

The war in disc formats is about to end it seems. Who will bow down from this competition? It’s no other than Toshiba. There was a statement made by an unnamed source in the company, “We have entered the final stage of planning to make our exit from the next generation DVD business.” This intention to step down and let Sony’s Blu-ray format was brought on by the fact that Warner Brothers studio will no longer use HD DVD products. And to make things worse, WalMart also announced last Friday that it would not stock HD DVDs in its outlets. It would not be enough that Toshiba have backing from NEC, Sanyo and Microsoft.

Toshiba’s latest competing model in the market is the Toshiba Portege M700 Tablet PC. This features a noticeable widescreen with 12-inch LED screen. The M700 will also come with touch capabilities. In a mere touch of a finger you can already maneuver through the different applications present in the Tablet. But if you don’t like using your fingers, there’s also the digitizer pen available for your use.

Toshiba Battery

There is another round for battery recall. Toshiba is currently recalling batteries for their model notebooks Satellite A100, Satellite A105 and Tecra A7 notebook PCs. Sony manufactured all all of the batteries used in these notebooks. Based on a warning issued by U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission or CPSC, the batteries in some of these notebook models produced between January and April are very prone to overheating. Almost 1,400 portable computers are involved in the recall. The batteries involved are the lithium-ion types.

Toshiba HD-A35 DVD Player

Which one do you prefer, new generation Blu-ray or HD DVD? At present these are the two competing high capacity disc technologies. Their competition for supremacy is hot and their respective supporters are on always on the go in developing players to meet the market’s demands. Toshiba as one of the primary promoter unleashed three new entry-level HD DVD players. The HD-A3, HD-A30 and the HD-A35 are the new players to look forward to. These third generation players are slim and smaller than their predecessors.
