Tech N Gadgets: PlayStation

Sony PS3

After so much glitch and delays, European gamers will finally be able to get their share of Sony’s PlayStation 3 game console. European gamers had better remember March 23. Yes this is the crucial date of the PS3’s launching in the European continent.

However, those who are eagerly watching out for this hot gadget may face some pangs of disappointment due to the price range. Just last year, Sony sold the basic type of console – containing 20-GB, to the US and Japanese market for $600 or 300 pounds. But in Europe, the company intends to focus only in presenting the 60-GB version of the PS3, which will sell for 395 pounds. Comparing that spec, I guess the price is just a fair exchange. Anyway, to anyone who really wants something badly no price is neither too high nor too low.

Ever played Pac Man on your Pentium 4 laptop and felt that this machine could give me just a bit more?
Ever asked Einstein to solve 1+1=?
Ever gone to the 1001 Flavors Ice-Cream shop and asked for vanilla?
Well that's the way Sony Computer Entertainment’s Executive Vice President Phil Harrison is feeling about the latest Sony PS3 games currently available. He feels that current PS3 games use less than half of the system capabilities, but at the same time he also said that “Nobody will ever use 100 percent of its capability.”

Now, the heavy weights have given it their best shot! They've all had their big opening days and dollars coming in. Time to sum up the points, pick up the pieces and clean up the rubble!

That battle was pretty much settled as Wii has an estimated 1 million Wii consoles already sold in Japan and the US alone in addition to another 50,000 sold across Europe with that much again sold in Australia. Compare that with Sony's meager 400,000 units in the US and Japan.

By Friday US video gamers will finally get a taste of the new Sony Playstation 3 . . . that’s if you can be lucky enough to get your hands on one. Reports say that demand outruns the supply of this new gaming console, and this taking into account the release of the said console in Japan.

During the Japan launch, the people waited in line many hours before the actual launch just to be sure that they will be able to get their hands on this much awaited gadget. I guess most of the people who went in line were able to get one since Sony made a sold out with the 100,000 units in Japan. For the US launch, a reported 400, 000 units will be made available. With this figure, we will just have to wait whether demand will really outrun the supply.

Sure it should have a Blu-Ray disk unit, it should also be a Sony brand but it would be great if there 20 new games of course! Sony is doing just that in biggest ever line up of software for the launch of a new gaming console, Sony have unveiled more than 20 first and third party titles in preparation for the mighty PS3. They're going to deliver half a million units during the launch phase, 400 thousand will go to the US and 100 thousand in Japan. These games include:
Resistance: Fall of Man, NBA 07, Genji: Days of the Blade and also some new games from third party publisher such as Blazing Angels Squadrons of WWII, Call of Duty 3, EA Sports Fight Night Round 3, Mobile Suit Gundam: CROSSFIRE, NBA 2K7, in addition to many others.

All I can say to gamers out there is "start saving your money till November 17" you're gonna need it!

And after I waited and waited?I had hoped that the mega Sony PSP might come within my grasps this year but apparently not!

Sony declared that no price cut will be operated on the North American territory. "We don't necessarily see the need to cut the price," John Koller, a product manager at Sony Computer Entertainment said.

"We need to offer broader value and introduce new consumers to what the PSP can do." He said.

PS3

Sony is about to launch its new game consul PS3 in Japan on November 11th and November 17 in Europe and North America. Lucky Japs! The game consul will drop about 20% in price in order to make it more competitive for customers. Rivalry with Microsoft’s Xbox and Nintendo will be at its highest point this Christmas as all three makers will try their best to catch as many customers as possible in the run up to the Christmas market.
Wouldn’t it be cool if someone made a game about that??

The new PS will cost!
Even after the 20% discount, you’ll still be paying about than $500!
I know you’re going to buy it anyway but the question is: “Is it worth it?”
Well…
If you consider that it has a Blu-ray high-definition optical disc drive, a 20GB hard disk and outlets that work on the best High-Definition TVs for optimum performance, then….YES! It’s worth it.

super Hi-fi speaker for PSP

Do you own a PSP…I think I’m the bravest 27 year-old to admit that my dream present would be a PSP. I saw it in the hands of a 7 year-old student who was gladly showing me all the fun-packed features.

The screen is brilliant, the graphics are great, the accessories are cool, the DVDs are so cute and not the sound just got LOUDER!

Gamexpert have just reviled their latest addition for PSP add-ons: A super Hi-fi speaker with a subwoofer. It’s the ultimate add-on for PSP lovers. This way, you can turn your PSP into a home stereo.
But all good things have a downside. This wonderful and cute gadget will cost no less than $375 when it becomes available in a few weeks. So in order to make the PSP sound louder, you’ll have to start saving TODAY. This is where these add-ons (however lovely) start to piss me off. They cost more than the gadget itself and cannot be used for anything else.

PSP Entertainment Pack

After disclosing a bad news last week, Sony tries to please gamers this time with the announcement of a new PSP Entertainment Bundle to be launched just in time for the early holiday shopping. The PSP Entertainment pack shall include PSP system, 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo, black version of the ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails and a UMD version of Lords of Dogtown.

The pack will be available for $249.99. Sony says that if shoppers will buy each of the items in the entertainment bundle individually, it will cost them around $300 so the new PSP pack will help them save.

Early holiday shoppers can also look forward to buying a limited edition pink PSP value pack, which will hit the store shelves in the last week of October and a pink PS2 bundle that will be out on November 1. The pink PSP will come with headphones, a pouch and 32MB memory stick while the pink PS2 will come with 2 DualShock Analog controllers and 8MB memory card.

PlayStation 3

Bad news of PS3 gamers in Europe: they won’t be able to get hold of the new PlayStation 3 this holiday season as launching of the PS3 will be delayed in Europe. Sony has also announced last Wednesday that it will postpone launching of the PlayStation 3 in Australia, Middle East and Africa because of the insufficient supply of a key component in the game console’s Blu-ray disc laser.

The launching of PS3 in the said regions will be delayed until March next year while launching in North America and Japan will proceed on November 17 and 11, respectively, as earlier planned.

Furthermore, the company announced that only 4,000 units of PS3s will available in the US and 100,000 PS3s in Japan upon the launching of this much awaited game console, contrary to what Sony Computer Entertainment America said about two weeks ago that the company is still on schedule to ship 2 million PS3s in November and another 2 million by the end of the year.

PlayStation 3

There are reports that say Sony might not be able to realize its plan to produce 4 million PS3s this year because of blue laser diodes shortages. These diodes are needed in the Blu-ray Disc pick-up heads. Sony however announced last week that it will ship 2 million units of the much awaited PlayStation 3 consoles on November. Sony has also made it clear that they are still going to launch additional 2 million PS3s by the end of the year.

Here is the statement by Sony Computer Entertainment America about the PS3 shortage reports: “Unfortunately Kaz Hirai's comments in the recent GameSpot interview regarding PlayStation 3 production were misunderstood. We are still on schedule to ship 2 million units for our mid-November 2006 launch and additional 2 million units by the end of the year for a total of 4 million units.”

PS3

The much anticipated PlayStation 3 has been gaining a lot of criticism lately, primarily because of its high pricing. Recently, even editor of Sony’s Official PlayStation Magazine, Dana Jongewaard openly expressed her interest in buying PS3’s greatest rival, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft instead of the PS3.

But PS3 isn’t left without strong supporters. Production acquisition director Ian Livingstone of Eidos Interactive, publisher of popular game series Tomb Raider and Commandos said that he prefers quality over pricing; hence, he chooses the PlayStation 3 over the Xbox 360.

PlayStation 3

According to market analysts, gaming enthusiasts’ interest on the upcoming PlayStation 3 has grown faint recently. Although people have been anticipating the coming of this seventh generation era video game console, only a few software for the PS3 are coming out. Moreover, it costs much higher than its competitors in the market, including Microsoft Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii, so most gamers might choose their lower-priced options.

PlayStation 3

One million PlayStation 3 units per month will be shipped after launch on November 2006. PS3 has an overwhelming computing power, it will have a storage capacity of 50 GB with the help of BD (Blu-ray Disc) which can deliver digital entertainment content such as games and movies too; the new PS3 is also compatible with different kinds of TV sets; you can also connect it to high speed broadband network and enjoy many services available on the network.

Will PlayStation keep its dominantion of home game consoles?
