Tech N Gadgets: Microsoft

Touch screen technology has been around for a while, but Microsoft is taking things to the highest level with their newest developed technology – the Microsoft Surface. I say to the highest level because this is the first product in the field of surface computing technology. I saw a video of how the Surface works it was really impressive. Microsoft surface is the size of a coffee table and you’d likely mistake it for a coffee table really.
Online advertising is one field that is generating a lot of revenue these days. And we all know that going online and having your product advertised online is one way of making yourself visible to online users. For Microsoft, in order to expand their relation with agencies, advertisers and media owners this company has acquired the digital marketing firm aQuantive. Microsoft purchased the ad company for US$66.50 per share, or a total of US$6 billion. aQuantive is attractive to Microsoft because of its excellent tools for managing the buying and selling of online advertisements.
Open sourcing is now one of the avenues being applied by the various technological companies in order to reach further afield and be able to cater to a wider range of consumers. One good example of this is Microsoft as it releases the latest official Windows Media Player for the Firefox 2.0. This new release makes it possible for Media Player to work properly with the Firefox browser used on the Windows Vista OS. Those who want this new add-on can go to the Firefox site where they can download it. In the site you will find the add-ons that will perfectly fit in with the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the XP SP2 and Vista OS.
Microsoft is now facing another problem regarding their Vista promotion. A class action lawsuit has been filed against the company for the supposedly deceptive labeling of PCs. We all know that in order for the Vista OS to operate, the PC or laptop needs to meet certain requirement like the minimum requirement of several gigabytes of disk space and at least gigabyte of ram. In order to help consumers Microsoft initiated a labeled software and hardware. They labeled hardware as “Vista Capable”, and now this labeling is the cause of Microsoft’s problem.
The class-action suit that was filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington stems from the fact that Microsoft permitted PC makers to put a “Vista Capable” label on a computer without specifying what kind of Vista it will operate. There were confusion among consumers because PC’s sold as being Vista capable were not able to run features like Aero, Flip 3D and Media center PC.

There are always some benefits in being the first. In this instance I’m talking about the Vista OS launch. PC users who were fast on their toes in making the Vista upgrade will be given three months of free Wi-Fi access. If that isn’t a great offer then I don’t know what it is! I think that this is a great benefit for the users . . . likewise for Microsoft. I’m sure this is still one of their promotional strategies to get the people to make the switch A.S.A.P.

January 30 marked the day of Microsoft Vista’s launch. This day is certainly a very memorable one for those who have watched and waited for this new operating system. The launch itself was not really that much of a party hooker, held at the British Library in London. Consequently, the Vista was also launched in 70 countries around the world. Like any other major event, the launch started an hour late. But it’s not such a big deal because the audience was entertained Indie classics. Anyway, after 5 long years of waiting, 1 hour more is quite tolerable.

The billion-dollar operating system by Microsoft is proving to be an easy target to shoot down by hackers. The new system which is ironically designed to prevent piracy and hacking apparently has been penetrated.
Apparently, there is a way to activate Vista without having to do so directly online. A company can host a local activation server which does not talk to Microsoft's server. This was supposed to make it easier for companies which have over 25 computers to activate. Hackers have spoofed Microsoft's Key Management Service (KMS) server. This can activate Vista for 180 days and then you’ll have to do it all over again…but hey…it works!
This can't be done on the home edition though, so don't get your hopes up :)
