Seagate: PC Security with Another Philosophy

Seagate

We all have anti-virus software running on our PCs, some of which are very good. But all the anti-spyware, antivirus and anti-spam programs can't protect your machine from raw theft. Sure, you can use biometrics and password encryption but non will be as efficient as what Seagate Technology have thought of.
Get this: The California based company have developed full-disk encryption technology that can be built into hard-disk drives. The new Technology automatically encrypts all the data written to the disk, making it inaccessible to anyone who doesn't have the correct password when the computer first starts up. This makes you think of hard disks in more ways than just storage.

First 40nm Memory Chip from Samsung

Samsung 40nm chip

Samsung has recently announced the first 40 nanometer memory chip, the 32GB NAND flash chip. This 32GB NAND flash memory can be used to create memory cards with capacities up to 64 gigabytes. A 64GB card can hold about 40 DVD-quality movies or 16,000 MP3s.

This device is also the first to employ “Charge Trap Flash” technology, Samsung’s new way of improving manufacturing efficiency and performance. The CTF design technique, compared to the usual floating gate structure of today’s flash chips, stores data in nonconductive layer of the flash memory. Samsung says that this technology can later lead to the development of a 20nm 256GB NAND chips.
