Google Voice Banned From Apple’s App Store
Google Voice is an application that has a great potential to make communication even more convenient for a lot of people, if only given the chance... a chance that’s been shot down when Apple rejected Google’s application to make Voice as one of iPhone’s programs. The let-down has been officially confirmed by a Google spokesperson. His statement about the rejection was clear, “Apple did not approve the Google Voice application we submitted six weeks ago to the Apple App Store. We will continue to work to bring our services to iPhone users —for example by taking advantage of advances in mobile browsers.”

I have a question for you. How long have you been using Gmail? What, 5 years? In that entire time did you know that it was still in beta? I have to admit I did not. Ok, I wasn’t paying close attention when I signed up a few years ago. Anyway, the important thing is, Gmail is finally out of the beta version as of July 7, 2009. This bit of news came from Google Apps’ senior product manager Rajen Sheth’s blog.

Google Wave Could be the Next Biggest Online App

Are you ready to take on the Wave? Wave is the latest application that Google is developing for its users. This application aims to simplify the way people handle their emails, IM, and other online accounts. But, take note, Wave will involve input from other users. If you create something through Wave, everyone included in your account can improve it using rich HTML, pictures, videos, and other useful contents found in the Web. And while those changes are being done, you can communicate with those friends included in your Wave. So, you can see all the changes being done in real time. I hope with this, you get the basic picture of how and what Wave can do.

Owners of the first Google phone, T-Mobile G1, are lucky because they can play Guitar Hero on the device soon. Some of the Guitar Hero tracks that will be available are Deep Purple’s Smoke on the Water and Guns n Roses’ Welcome to the Jungle. We’re not sure how Google phone owners will react to this because previous applications have been free of charge. This game is the first application that comes with a fee from the Android Marketplace.

Gmail Gets Offline Extension
Google users like me are sure glad of the news that Gmail is now accessible to users even if they are without an Internet connection. This means users can read, write, and archive messages almost anywhere! It was just last week when the company released the updated version of Gmail e-mail service. How is this offline access possible? The Googles Gears browser extension provides this offline access to Gmail. To have it work on your PC, you have to tinker a bit with your Gmail settings to accommodate Gears. Once that’s done, you have to download a copy of your Gmail inbox to your PC’s hard drive. Gmail’s cached version is the automatic default if your connection is bad or if you lose it completely.

Google Adds Audio and Video Feature to Gmail!

Google just keeps getting better. Gmail users will be glad to know that new applications will be added to the service. Pretty soon voice and video conferencing will be available aside from the Gmail chat. To make voice and video conferencing possible, users will need to download a plug-in. Of course, your PC or laptop must have webcam access. To show that Google is serious about making video conferencing more convenient, it has teamed up with Logitech and Buy.com to offer up to 30% discounts on cameras! Aside from the discounts, free shipping is also offered. All these are only until Nov. 30.
Based on the article I read, using the new app seems easy. If you already have the plug in, just click on the “video and more” link that’s inside the chat window, then, choose the start video/voice chat. A ring will be heard at the other end and the person will just have to choose whether to ignore or accept the call. I think it’s a pretty neat and straightforward process.
Avoid Embarrassing Email with Mail Goggles

Have you experienced receiving emails that are so hard to comprehend? That after glancing at it you can’t help but sympathize at the state of the mind of the person who wrote it? Well, it could have been a wrongly sent letter because the sender might be under the influence of some substance like alcohol and probably don’t know what he’s doing. With the newly launched Mail Goggles there’s be no more scenarios like this. This free service has been added last Monday and Google expects that will lessen instances of sending vindictive email messages, which usually happens only when the person is under the influence. Mail Goggles is not active 24/7. It is only activated late at night during the weekend. If you want to make some changes to its activation time you can tinker with the General settings.
Changing the World with Project 10 to the 100th

Google will be celebrating its 10th birthday and for a wish it wants to change the world! For the better, that is why it launched a program called Project 10 to the 100th.
You pronounce it as Project 10 to the 100th. This project is aimed to gather ideas that will change the world by helping as many people around the world as possible. The company is giving $10 million dollars for the said program. Out of the thousands of ideas that will be submitted, Google will get the top 100 ideas. These 100 choices will be narrowed down into 20 through Google users’ votes. Then, once the final 20 has been chosen, a panel of judges will deliberate and choose 5 ideas that will receive final funding.
According to Google ideas can be diverse. It doesn’t matter whether they are big or small, technology-driven or brilliantly simple, all that’s required is they must have impact.
If you think you have an idea that can help change the world and people’s lives you can submit it now to Google. Submissions are already being accepted and will run only until October 20. There’s a submission form provided where you can give the essence of your idea. A 30-second video must accompany the said form. Online voting of the selected 100 ideas will start on January 27.

How Google’s Knol Differs From Wikipedia
Wikipedia finds a competition in Google’s newly launched Knol. BY going public on Wednesday, Google hopes that Knol “will fill the gaps on what we have on the web today” as stated by Knol’s product manager Cedric DuPont. The word Knol is a shortened term for “a unit of knowledge.” Knol is similar yet different with the ever popular Wikipedia. They are similar in such a way that anyone can write an article about almost any topic under the sun.
However, in Wikipedia the author will remain anonymous and his content can be edited by anyone. With Knol on the other hand, the author will write content under his own byline and anyone wishing to edit it has to gain permission from the owner of the article. One of Knol’s primary objectives is to preserve authorship for the content to be more reliable. The contents written on Knol will be ranked according to reviews, ratings, and how often people browse it. In shorter term I guess that means relevance and popularity.
