Change is always a good thing right? So, let’s just look on Sony’s latest attempt to switch on a new memory card format. From the MemoryStick Micro (M2) format, the company is switching to microSDHC cards!
Speculations on the possible change started when Sony Ericsson released two new phones – Yari and Aino – that are built with SD card slots instead of the M2. And when asked if they are really moving from M2, Sony Ericsson’s Global Marketing Director, Fortune Alexander confirmed it with his statement, “Yes, we are moving in that direction.”
Should we say it’s really about time they switch to the modern SD card?
Before the SD card and M2, Sony used several other formats, which they abandoned after a while. Let’s have a short trip on memory lane, the very first one was Betamax video in 1975. Maybe some of you weren’t even alive yet that time. Next is the Digital Audio Tape in the Mid-1980’s, which came after the regular analog cassette tape. Then, in 1993 came the Minidisc and the ATRAC Audio Compression. Then after them came the MemoryStick in 1998, which until now, is being used by Sony in its various devices.
But, that’s about to change very soon as Sony makes the switch to SD cards.
