Are you the type who takes your phone with even when relaxing in the pool? That’s hazardous for your phone. You must know a waterlogged phone is good for nothing. What you need is a waterproof phone that you can take with you if you intend to lounge by the poolside. Sharp has announced an upcoming waterproof phone and solar-powered phone. To absorb energy from the sun, the phone features a solar panel that installed in the lid of the phone. It needs to be exposed under the rays of the sun for about 10 minutes for you to have a minute of talk time and two hours of standby power.

This solar-powered phone or Sharp-KDDI is one of Sharp’s new products under its “Green Road Project”. It’s developed in cooperation with Japanese cell phone company AU KDDI.

However, don’t think that this Sharp cell phone is the first solar-powered handset. There have been such phones from LG, Samsung with Blue Earth, and Intivision.

Sharp-KDDI is due to be released in June.
