Skype Coming to Apple iPhone

Great news for iPhone owners who have dreamed of having unlimited Skype call through their devices. On Tuesday Skype will launch its Net-based phone service to the iPhone! You can have Skype calls as long as you and your contacts have Skype accounts. Just the same as before, the service is free. However, the calls can only be made via Wi-Fi and not through cellular networks. This part of the deal might cause disappointment to some iPhone owners.

Skype for iPhone looks just like other iPhone applications. It comes with five tabs at the bottom of the screen. It also displays contacts, chats, a calling panel, call history, and your profile. Users who are very observant will immediately notice how the profile layout looks like that with Facebook. The phone numbers displayed come directly from your address book so there’s no possibility of any one getting duplicated.

Aside from calls, chat is also possible through the Skype app. This can be made even through a cellular network, unlike calls which can only be made through Wi-Fi.

The developers are still working their way toward integrating SMS, video and conference, voice mail, and file transfer to this iPhone version of Skype.

Skype for iPhone will be available on Tuesday. A version will also come to the Blackberry phones in May.
