HoloTV: The Latest in 3D TV Technology

There might also come a time when LCDs and HD TVs would no longer be the “in” thing when it comes to home entertainment systems. The new and still under development 3D system could take their place soon. The holoTV is the latest holographic TV system that cast an animation directly to a white-light screen. This image that’s created seems to float in front of the screen and not inside it. So, viewers can watch the scene from all angles whether they’re in front, behind, or next to the screen.

Unlike other 3D TVs that have been developed prior to the holoTV, no goggles are required to see and experience the full effects of the holoTV. A big difference of the holoTV from other holographic television is that that images produced are formed through projection in a diffractive screen made by the splitting and subsequent interference of a light beam on a holographic film.

The holoTv is a development of scientists from the University of Campinas in Sao Paulo Brazil, and the High Polytechnic Institute Jose Antonio Echeverria in Havana, Cuba. They published their study in the latest edition of Optics letters.
