Who would have thought that people at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are waiting with baited breath for the iPhone 3G’s launch? Evidence of this ardent anticipation is the 25,000 people that subscribed within hours after Apple iPhone’s launch on Monday. The iPhone was launched under Saudi mobile operator Mobily. Even the folks at Mobily were surprised at the rush of subscribers, both the walk-in applicants and those who applied online.

The iPhone is now also available in 500 Mobily sales outlets for those who want to avail and subscribe to the iPhone. For those who want to subscribe, Mobily offers both pre- and post-paid packages. The 8GB post-paid subscription plan is priced at SR2,255 and the 16GB at SR2,650 with an SR99 monthly fee. Those who get the post-paid subscription will get an additional 75 minutes of voice and 199 MB data credit. Now, the pre-paid subscription is SR2,400 for 8GB and SR2,800 for 16GB.

The only major drawback about the KSA iPhone version is it doesn’t allow users to send or read text messages in Arabic properly.

This is proof that the charm and attraction of the Apple iPhone 3G hasn’t waned one bit. It’s a phone, widescreen iPod, and internet device capabilities are still a big hit to people around the globe.
