Microsoft Faces Lawsuit over Vista to XP Downgrade Charge

Just when we thought lawsuits over Microsoft’s Vista are over, a new one crops up. A woman named Emma Alvarado filed a lawsuit against Microsoft for multiple violations of Washington State’s unfair business practices. According to her, Microsoft is making more money from the Vista to XP professional downgrades that customers like her have to do.

When she bought a Lenovo PC with the preinstalled Window Vista Business OS, she had to pay an additional $59.25 to downgrade Vista to XP Professional. Alvarado wants Microsoft to give back the amount she spent on the downgrade. She is looking for compensatory damages and wants the case to be stated as a class-action lawsuit.

However, Microsoft denies making any money from downgrades. According to Microsoft’s spokesman, the company does not charge or receive any additional payment if a customer downgrades a PCs operating system. It is the computer maker that charges and profits from the user.

Emma Alvarado’s lawsuit has aroused varying reactions. Some say she’s only out to make a quick buck, while others say that her complain has a point. Well, we just have to see to whom this new case turns in favor of.
