Google users like me are sure glad of the news that Gmail is now accessible to users even if they are without an Internet connection. This means users can read, write, and archive messages almost anywhere! It was just last week when the company released the updated version of Gmail e-mail service. How is this offline access possible? The Googles Gears browser extension provides this offline access to Gmail. To have it work on your PC, you have to tinker a bit with your Gmail settings to accommodate Gears. Once that’s done, you have to download a copy of your Gmail inbox to your PC’s hard drive. Gmail’s cached version is the automatic default if your connection is bad or if you lose it completely.
Gmail Gets Offline Extension
This particular application has also been used to enable Google Docs and Google Reader even without Internet connection. This offline Gmail access is still pretty much experimental. Google spokeswoman, Joyce Sohn, warned that this offline access is not yet completely ironed out so users have to be patient.
I’m confident Google’s going to smooth out its operations soon. When that time comes, it’s sure going to be very convenient for Gmail users like me!
