Technology never really rests. Each day new things always get discovered. Take for example this one. Japanese company Pioneer developed what I think is the optical disc that has the largest storage capacity in the world. Yesterday the company announced that they came up with a 16-layer, read only disc that has 400GB storage capacity. Pioneer made this possible by integrating 25GB storage in each of the 16 layers. Imagine 400GB is more than the storage space you’ll ever need.
Pioneer Develops 400GB-Capacity Optical Disc
Pioneer said that this disc can be compatible with Blu-ray players. During its development, Pioneer encountered some problems with the outcome because the signals from each layer seemed to overlap. This resulted in an unclear signal from the layers. Good thing, Pioneer was able to come up with a solution to this problem. They came up with a new optical disc structure that is capable of playing signals from each layer, minus the interference.
Pioneer presented this new product including the details at the International Symposium on Optical Memory and Optical Data Storage that was held in Hawaii on July 13.
