DreamWorks Drops AMD for Intel Chips

By Raissa on Jul 10, 2008

Maybe by now AMD is feeling the blow that DreamWorks dealt them with. DreamWorks dropped AMD for Intel. After 3 years of partnership, what motivated it to make the switch? The movie studio mentioned that it is after Intel?s upcoming processors namely the Nehalem processor and Larrabee graphics chip. It seems that DreamWorks is after better 3D filming technology for its future projects. What the company is planning for next year is a film in stereoscopic 3D. To have good viewing experience, the viewer needs to wear special glasses. And for this plan to come through the company needs multiprocessing cores that Intel provides.

But with this change ? DreamWorks going to Intel for its needs ? AMD says that DreamWorks is ?still an important and respected AMD customer? and that they ?look forward to working with them again in the future.? Though AMD is also developing better processors, DreamWorks says that Intel?s platform is more ambitious and more suitable for their needs.

We can look forward to this stereoscopic 3D film that DreamWorks is planning for next year.
