After Blu-Ray’s triumph in the format war, many HD-DVD owners may be wondering what is in store for them. Best Buy, as one of HD-DVD’s major retailer is giving away free gift cards to its customers who bought HD-DVD players as well as its attachments. Customers who are legitimate for the $50 gift cards are those who made their purchase in U.S. stores before February 23, 2008. In case you bought two or more players, you can have a gift card for each of them. This also goes for the HD-DVD attachments bought.

If you are an HD-DVD owner, you don’t have to worry about anything because Best Buy will be the one to locate you. The company will mail the gift cards to all customers that are included in their list as having bought an HD-DVD player. Those who are affiliated to Best Buy’s Reward Zone Program, those who bought the Performance Service Plans (PSPs), and those who made their purchase over at BestBuy.com should make sure to check their mails by May 1. The gift cards should be there by then. If you have problems receiving the gift card just call (888) BEST BUY.

This promotion by Best Buy is aimed for HD-DVD owners who do not want to get rid of their players. And aside from getting to keep the player, they can indulge themselves to anything in the store with the $50 gift card. This Best Buy offer is good until 12/31/08.

But, if you want to exchange it just take a tour to the Online Trade-In Center at Best Buy. An estimate will be given for the player including any HD-DVD attachment you’d like to include and once you agree with the estimate you can ship the player to the Trade-In Center. You have to download a prepaid label in order to receive an additional gift card.
