I think it has not been that long since the IE7 came into use. But since the Web is an ever improving world we have to make way now for Microsoft’s IE8. This latest version of the browser comes with lots of changes. And the statement made by Microsoft about those changes has elicited different reactions among users and developers. What’s the feature that makes IE8 controversial? According to Microsoft it will come with 3 modes that the user can use according to his need.
The modes are the “Quirks Mode” that is compatible with present content, the “Standards Mode” that works basically like the IE7 and the third one is the “Super Standard” which is somewhat more complicated than the other modes. In order to make full use of the Super Standard the user needs to put in a element. In a general way, the user will still have a choice on which mode to use. Microsoft has a reason for making the different modes. From what I gathered from the statement made by IE Platform Architect Chris Wilson, they want to provide the best combination of features especially for web developers so that they will not encounter problems when using the IE8 with the current content. Developers can choose their own time for using the modes depending on the task at hand.
But even with these reasons laid out by Microsoft the new features still gave rise to the ire of some developers. There are also some who gave their utmost approval.
