In order to meet the frenzy of shopping for the coming Christmas holidays Sony has announced its intention to launch a new and lighter version of the 7-year old PlayStation 2 game console. Compared to the original model which weighs 850 grams, this latest model of the PS2 weighs only 750 grams, why? what makes the difference? Sony has integrated the AC-adaptor within the console. Yes, it’s goodbye to the cumbersome AC-adaptor which adds to the bulk of the device.

Sony will launch this new model in Japan come November 22. Shoppers over there can take their time to decide whether to purchase one immediately or wait for the holiday rush. The lighter PS2 model will come with a price tag of 16,000 yen or $140. Bad news for the US as well as other markets though because Sony has not said anything about its release other than in Japan.

The Sony PS3 is so far the highest selling game console of all time. It has sold over 120 million units all over the world. This is the console that has given sizeable profit to Sony. PS2 is still Sony’s pride and joy even though they already have the latest PS3.
