Xbox 360 Arcade

Xbox fans have more reason to clap their hands and rejoice with the official launch of the Xbox 360 Arcade. This new game pack becomes official after months of speculation. Some sharp-eyed Xbox fans even saw some of this pack already in the stores months before. With this new Xbox 360 Arcade pack Microsoft aims to attract casual gamers and families.

This pack contains great tools like the wireless controller, 256-megabyte memory card, and HDMI port. The pack wouldn’t be complete without the game that is why Microsoft packed it with 5 games from Xbox Live Arcade like Pac-Man Championship Edition, Uno, Luxor2, Boom Boom Rock as well as feeding frenzy. And this whole Xbox 360 Arcade packs comes for just a price of $279.99.

Its price is one of the enticements designed by Microsoft so that they will have more edge from competitors like PlayStation 3 and especially Nintendo Wii that offers a relatively affordable price.

Once you get past the 5 initial arcade games, the new XBox Arcade is nothing more than a core unit. No Hard Drive! What's the point? To use it beyond the five games the consumer needs to buy and install a Hard Drive (120GB - $179.99) and join XBoxLIVE (1 year - $49.99). Now the price went from $279.99 to well over $509 with tax, and that's still without WiFi (WiFi - $99.99).

My suggestion is, wait until the Full HD XBox comes out (Q4 2008) or buy a Playstation 3 for $399.99. The PS3 has a built in Blu-Ray player for HiDEF movies & Games and the Online service is FREE.
