It seems inevitable that technology will take over every aspect of our lives and allow us to do everything without stepping outside the doors of our houses. The next sector to be taken over by technology is the Zakat levy. As part of the Islamic religion every Muslim has to pay 2.5% of their wealth and in the UAE this money goes to the Zakat fund which collects the levies and then distributes it to the needy.
The Zakat Fund company has released a new feature which allows Muslims all over the UAE to dial *123# on their mobile phones and pay their levy via credit cards. The Zakat Fund Company is the first zakat collecting organization to enable this feature which should make a lot of people’s lives easier. The ability to pay via mobile phone was also enabled recently by the telecommunications company Etisalat and was received with open arms by the entire UAE.
