Western Digital Reveals Greener Hard Drives


Technological company Western Digital revealed their latest GreenPower Initiative – the latest line of hard drives that leans towards the greener side. Greener because the hard drives are provided with the capacity to save up to 40% of power, which when you convert to your yearly power bill could be up to $10. This greener drives will include encompass desktop, enterprise, consumer electronics and external applications with sizes of 320GB up to 1TB.

Aside from the energy-saving feature, the new hard drives are also capable of automatic unloading of the heads so that the application will not slow down. It also provides improved balance in the spin and cache speed and transfer time. All of Western Digital’s GreenPower drives will be given the GP name. The 3.5-inch Caviar GP is the first desktop version that will ship in August. Caviar GP together with the RE-GP and AV-GP versions will have 320GB up to 1TB size. The latter 2 models will ship after the Caviar GP.
