Doctors have come to discover that listening to an iPod or Mp3 player of any kind during a thunder storm can have deadly effects- literally. 18 year old Jason Bunch was jogging and listening to his tunes on his iPod when there was a storm nearby and even though it was far away the lightning hit a tree and jumped off and hit him! The effect was several serious burns, ruptured eardrums and even broken bones!
Scientists have said that it is very unlikely that lightning will directly hit a person but it is more likely for it to hit a nearby object and jump off onto the person and the combination of sweat and an electric device will make this even more likely and make the effects even more painful. Doctors remind the public ‘When thunder roars, go indoors’ because if you don’t the consequences can be permanent.
Apple inc have refused to comment on this issue but the company is safe because their packaging does warn against use in the rain. Moral of the story: sacrifice the music if there’s a thunderstorm anywhere near you.
