Dying to get your hands on one of Sony’s PS3 but just can’t because of its somewhat stiff price tag? Here’s good news for you…the current 60GB model will be available for only $499! That’s $100 below the original price and that’s just after 7 months in the North American market. This surprising move maybe the company’s way of recouping some of their losses after failing to meet their target sales from the onset. And aside from slashing on the 60BG’s price tag Sony is also releasing a new model come August. The new 80GB PlayStation 3 will be selling for $599 and serving as an appetizer for gamers will be the popular MotorStorm game that was released earlier on this year.

The very good thing about the new model is its expanded hard disk drive or HDD that will provide users with more space for storing loads of games and other contents. The development of this new model is not just a whim because not for long now Sony is intending to offer more high-definition videos, games, demos and lots of movie trailers that PS3 users can download from the PlayStation Network. In this year alone, Sony will be releasing 100 new video games with 15 of them exclusive for the PS3.
