It is already a common knowledge that the substance lead can be hazardous to human health. It not only debilitates a person’s health but at the worst level it can lead to death. A lot of company’s already phased-out the use of lead in their products and in the world of technology; Intel is joining the lead-free production of their processors.

Back in 2004 Intel has already eliminated 95% of the toxic metal from their products and now it will get rid of the remaining 5 percent making their line up of chips totally lead-free. Previously they used tin/lead combination in linking the processor to the motherboard and this combination will be replaced by tin, silver and copper composition. A lot of engineering effort was made in order to make this possible.

This move is being made in strengthening Intel’s interest for health and environmental preservation. As what Intel’s director of assembly test technology development Nasser Grayeli said, “Intel is taking an aggressive stance toward environmental sustainability”.

With this we can expect more lead-free technology from Intel, starting with the 45 nanometer high-k metal gate processor that encompass the Core 2 Duo, Core Quad and the Quad and Xeon processors. By 2008 their 65nm chips will also be produced lead-free.
