Skype Game

And who hasn’t heard of Skype? Well, aside from providing fast and free Internet calling Skype is now also venturing into another field. Skype’s next stop-over is now in the gaming world as announced by Skype Developer Program Director Paul Amery in his speech at the TMC’s Communications Developer Conference. This move is made in order to provide users with a wider range of experience and not be merely closed-in on voice calls. Right now Skype is on a heavy promotion of the Game Developer Program that offers SDK and tools. Skype is in partnership with Easybits Software in creating the Skype Game Channel as well as the Game developer Program. And since the idea came from Skype, they will also be the one to take care of the distribution, marketing, billing and DRM.

Here are some statements made by Paul Amery at the TMC Communications Developer Conference, “People are increasingly using Skype to interact with one another, with many choosing to play simple games like checkers or backgammon. However, the tremendous size of Skype’s user-base makes it an ideal environment for multi-player and community-based games in which people can play against or collaborate with one another,”

“We hope the Skype Game Channel becomes a popular entertainment destination within the Skype community. Our goal is to make it as easy and profitable as possible for the developers, while keeping it simple and fun for consumers to use.”
