Motorola had their latest created technology patented last April 17, 2007. This technology is an LCD that has the capability not only to display images but also to generate power. The Patent 7,206.044 was given to Motorola’s “Display and Solar Cell Device”. How is this possible? Motorola made use of color filters from polymer film that only shows red, blue and green lights. These lights enable the user to see the colors on the display and then some light is also allowed to seep through to the solar panel imbedded in the device. According to Motorola this new system conveys light 75% better than the traditional screens.

When developed to its full potential I think that this Solar LCD display will bring lots of benefits to mobile users. Just imagine you’ll no longer have to carry a cell phone charger wherever you go. Neat huh? There is no news yet as to when Motorola will make this Solar LCD display for the world market at large.
