Just when we thought that the issues about overheating batteries was already over, Acer just joined the fray on battery recalls…following suit to major notebook producers like Dell, Toshiba and Apple. Just this Wednesday Acer America stated the recall of 27000 Lithium Ion notebook batteries made by Sony. The notebook batteries have cells made by Sony that can overheat and potentially cause fire. As of this time no Acer use has yet reported about the overheating laptop and this move by Acer to recall the batteries is being made in cooperation with U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Acer gave a list of the notebooks that are affected – the Acer TravelMate series that contain the 4-digit model numbers that begin with 242, 320, 321, 330, 422, 467, 561, C20. Affected batteries are also suspected in the Aspire series that have 556, 560, 567, 930, 941 and 980 model numbers. These models are those sold in the U.S. from May 2004 until November 2006. Users can get a replacement for the batteries but if replacement is not yet acquired users can use the Ac adapter and power cord.
