Sony Removes 20GB PS3 from the US Market

From the launching of Sony PlayStation 3, 2 choices have been made available by the company to their supporters. The 20GB and the 60GB were the configurations made available for the PS3 enthusiasts. But after several months in the field it has been established by Sony that the 60GB PS3 has a higher sales in the whole United States and for this reason Sony is pulling out the lower selling 20GB from the market. Based on Sony’s figures, the 60GB PS3 outsold the other model with a ratio 10 to 1.

There are still some stocks of the 20GB PS3 on retail stores and they will still be sold until the stocks run out. It is also the choice of the retailer whether they still decide to sell it or return it to Sony. This is a statement made by Sony USA: “… we offered two separate models of PLAYSTATION 3 to meet the diverse needs and interests of our PlayStation fan base…Due to the overwhelming demand for the 60GB model from both retailers and consumers, we have ceased offering the 20GB model here in North America. In addition to the larger internal hard drive, the 60GB PlayStation 3 features added storage media slots and built-in Wi-Fi not found in the 20GB system. Based on retailer and consumer feedback, we have decided to focus our current efforts on the more popular 60GB model.”
