Microsoft is now facing another problem regarding their Vista promotion. A class action lawsuit has been filed against the company for the supposedly deceptive labeling of PCs. We all know that in order for the Vista OS to operate, the PC or laptop needs to meet certain requirement like the minimum requirement of several gigabytes of disk space and at least gigabyte of ram. In order to help consumers Microsoft initiated a labeled software and hardware. They labeled hardware as “Vista Capable”, and now this labeling is the cause of Microsoft’s problem.
The class-action suit that was filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington stems from the fact that Microsoft permitted PC makers to put a “Vista Capable” label on a computer without specifying what kind of Vista it will operate. There were confusion among consumers because PC’s sold as being Vista capable were not able to run features like Aero, Flip 3D and Media center PC.
"In sum, Microsoft engaged in bait and switch--assuring consumers they were purchasing 'Vista Capable' machines when, in fact, they could obtain only a stripped-down operating system lacking the functionality and features that Microsoft advertised as 'Vista,” according to the suit.
In defense Microsoft answers that they “conducted a broad effort to educate computer manufacturers, retailers and consumers about the hardware requirements to run different versions of Windows Vista.”
