Sony Blu-ray S300

You are probably aware that there are two competing next-generation disc formats surfacing as of today. One could say that these formats are still on their “coming out”. These two are the Blu-ray and the other is the HD DVD, the former being supported by Sony and the latter by Microsoft. To make their product more competitive, there’s been some reports that Sony intends to launch a Blu-ray Disc player that carries highly advanced capabilities but, at a noticeably lower price. This player is called the BDP-S300 will be available at a price of $599 – a price that is significantly lower than their current offering of BDP –S1 that costs $999.

This new BDP-S300 player has almost the same capabilities as the previous model. It has CD playback and compatibility with the “Bravia Theater Sync”. It also has a multichannel linear PCM digital audio output via HDMI. Some of the other features that can be looked forward to in this new player is the Dolby Digital Plus decoding, compatibility with several types of optical disc formats including AVCHD.

However, even with the lowered price, experts still predict its going to be a tough competition between the Blu-ray and the HD DVD.
