Skype TV

Janus Friis and Niklas Zennstrom, the guys who brought you the Internet calling program Skype, are now taking their abandoned son to the next level: Video.

They sold Skype last year to eBay and now they've invested $2.5 billion into a new internet TV station which will use P2P technology and broadcast in near high-definition quality over the net. The TV channels will be free of course and they will be making money from advertisers. Everyone wins. So far, no big TV stations have shown interest which maybe due to loose control they would have over the content, or maybe no control at all.
Currently 6,000 people are testing the service which is expected to be launched next year.

This would change the rules for everything when it comes to content control. It will be interesting to see how the new world of the media will be in 10 years if making your own Internet TV station were to become a trend.
