Nikon is one of the most respected names in terms of cameras. Well, now they have a new offering for the photo buffs out there. Unveiling the new addition to their SLR line up – give way for the D40 digital SLR.

Though news about the basic features of this D40 has been around in the internet for some weeks now, a feature that makes this item totally advantageous is the price that only goes $599.95.

This kit is also rumored to come with the DX-Nikkor AF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6G ED ii lens. This new camera is built with a compact body, noticeably smaller than the current offering Nikon D50. Though the body comes in small size, it comes with a 2.5 inch LCD. But unlike the previous Nikon cameras this D40 does not have the autofocus feature. When you take a shot the output is a 6.02 MP image.

Because of the new design and features, the new SLR is user-friendly especially to those who are new to the SLR technology.
