Sony is about to launch its new game consul PS3 in Japan on November 11th and November 17 in Europe and North America. Lucky Japs! The game consul will drop about 20% in price in order to make it more competitive for customers. Rivalry with Microsoft’s Xbox and Nintendo will be at its highest point this Christmas as all three makers will try their best to catch as many customers as possible in the run up to the Christmas market.
Wouldn’t it be cool if someone made a game about that??
The new PS will cost!
Even after the 20% discount, you’ll still be paying about than $500!
I know you’re going to buy it anyway but the question is: “Is it worth it?”
Well…
If you consider that it has a Blu-ray high-definition optical disc drive, a 20GB hard disk and outlets that work on the best High-Definition TVs for optimum performance, then….YES! It’s worth it.
But hold on, if you think that Sony is such a rich company, and it can afford to drop the price, then consider that Sony has estimated that their losses will be over 1 Billion Dollars by March of next year due to cutting the price. So what are they getting out of this discount?
“What is important is that we get more consoles sold to make up for the price cut and get more game makers and chip makers in our camp," Ken Kutaragi, head of Sony's game unit, said on the sidelines of the Tokyo Game Show.
It is interesting to point out that the USA is the world’s largest market for video games, followed by Japan and the UK.
