Nokia to Say Goodbye to Numbered Phones

Nokia Cell Phone

Inspired by the success of the RAZR and Chocolate phones from rivals, Nokia, the world’s leading mobile phone maker announced that it will be giving new Nokia models real names instead of numbers. Says Keith Pardy, head of marketing at Nokia, “What you will see coming from us in the future is not just a numbering system, you are going to start to see names that carry a meaning and are important to consumers.”

Nokia did not make it clear though if all its future models will be given names or if some handsets would still be numbered. This week, Nokia has just introduced 4 new handsets. All the L’Amour handsets were still numbered; these are the Nokia 7390, Nokia 7373 and the Nokia 7360. The latest edition of the Nokia 8880 though numbered, got the name “Sirocco.” Perhaps the next models will completely get rid of the numbers, which are so hard to remember.

The company has also recognized the fact that consumers are more interested in thinner handsets like the RAZR but Nokia up to now has not yet produced a RAZR-like phone. Hopefully soon it will.
