Talks about the Microsoft Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and the Nintendo Wii continue to heighten as the release dates of the last two game consoles draw near. The Xbox 360 was first launched in the US November last year while the other two will be out sometime during the fourth quarter of 2006. While Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 are in the lime light, Nintendo Wii, though not getting much attention these days, is still preparing for the imminent console battle.
Findings of an analysis conducted by The Yankee Group shows that Sony is going to win the competition, but not by a knockout. It said that PlayStation will get a 44% market share, just 4% higher than Xbox 360’s while Nintendo Wii will trail behind at number 3 spot with only a small fraction of supporters.

this yankee group obviously hasn't done their research or there being paid off somewhere down the line. There is alot of buzz surrounding the wii, more than the ps3. Not getting much attention these days, ya right.
Um.....whoever posted this article must not have seen the lines at E3 this year the Wii's line was at least 3 times the size of the PS3

The Wii has been getting virtually nothing but positive press lately. Everyone from developers to non-gaming news reporting sites and the fans themselves have been singing its praises since its smash debut at E3. The line to play the Wii wrapped all the way around the show floor, making the Xbox 360 and PS3 look pathetic in comparison. There is simply no debating that Nintendo stole the show -- nobody was excited about the PS3 after Sony's boring press conference, where they dropped the smelly bomb of the console's ridiculously unjustified lofty price tag, effectively deflating any enthusiasm the crowd had going.
Here's an FYI, Sony: gamers don't care about Blu-ray, so stop trumpeting about it as the justification for the high price. Gamers care about GAMES and the inclusion of a stupidly expensive (and as of yet non-standardized, remember HD-DVD?) technology will NOT make the games themselves any better and no gamer wants to be forced to pay for it.
In short, this is the most biased and unsubstantiated "article" about the Wii I've ever seen. I've produced farts with more and better supported information about the Wii than this.
Apparently, Yankee Group has predicted great success for other clients. Some names include Global Crossing and Enron.
I wouldn't put much stock in what they predict.
PS3 will sell a ton, simply because people do stupid things once in a while. But I don't think it's going to destroy either the 360 or Wii. I'm thinking this horserace is going to be a lot closer than the last time.

“not getting much attention these days” - xblog 360 and PS3 are the ones mostly featured recently, especially on Google. Most of the recent news were concerned about the competition between the two.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but this is just absurd. The Wii not getting much attention? Where on earth have you been? I guess the Playstation slogan is true. "Play in our world, live in your parent's basement". You are about as well informed as the PS2 and Xbox junkies I've met that think Nintendo has gone out of business.
The thing I scoff at the most is that this 'yankee group'(whoever the heck they are) is going as far as to predict the actual market share of all the consoles. I'll have to borrow your crystal ball sometime just for the fun of it.
Overall, it seems impossible to predict just who is going to come out on top, so underestimating any of the consoles in this round is a grave mistake.

I think that Sony will do well...In a couple years when they get prices down. They seem to have forgotten that most sales happen during Christmas. Parents will by the cheaper, more active one over the twice as expensive, sit on your butt one.
Notice how the Yankee group simply says, "The PS3 will win, 2nd will go to 360, and 3rd is Wii." I need more than this!!! How do I even know that there prediction is backed with research? And if it is, then chances are that the research is not completly thought through well! Anyone can say, "PS3 will win". See? I just said it! Anyone can say, "Wii will win." I just did! It doesn't mean anything yet! Unless I have seen some conlclusive research, I can't just believe them because, hey, they are these analysts that are sometimes right! ha ha I don't think so.

i really cant see the ps3 win just because its the best. the best dont always win, espically with such a price. pretty sure if they offered a price near the 360 it wouldve been better.

I live in Australia, Nintendo's weakest link and I have been to a local EB and Toys R Us and they are starting to stop taking pre orders of the PS3 purely because no one gives a shit about a $1000 console with only better graphics, where as Wii is going strong! PLaystation 3 is burning, I know a few people who have gone from PS3 to WIi purely because of price! I have my facts, you go get yours cause you boviously don't know what the hell your talking about!
