Nokia recently began their two-month trial of their new Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) system in 50 homes in Finland. The families were given dual-mode Nokia 6136 mobile phones, which support seamless handover from GSM networks to wireless LANs. Through the UMA system, Nokia aims to provide the mobile phone users with superior indoor reception and lower voice call costs by taking advantage of Wi-FI hotspots. Nokia also aims to help mobile phone operators expand their coverage even to rural locations.
The Nokia 6136 is one of Nokia’s latest models introduced by Nokia early this year. It’s a stylish clamshell cell phone featuring a host of excellent multimedia, web browsing and imaging features including a 1.3-megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom, music player that supports MP3, MP4, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+ and WMA files, video streaming and recording capabilities, and integrated XHTML browser. Nokia 6136 is designed to meet the needs of corporate mobile users who can use this both for personal and inter-office VoIP calls.
