Sony Electronics announced a new removable hard disk drive: the Compactvault drive. This drive has a capacity of 5GB which make it able to hold up to 2500 JPEG images at 2MB each or 200 minutes of MPEG4 video. Sony's 5GB CompactVault drive also features high transfer speeds of up to 12MB/sec and it uses compact flash type II slots, such as those found in digital still cameras.

Shipping of Sony's 5GB CompactVault Drive will begin later this month with a suggested retail price of $199.99. It will be available online at SonyStyle.com
