It was the top-seed's third victory in a row and his ATP-tour-leading ninth tournament win of the year. His eight previous wins, including the French Open, were on slower clay courts, that is why playing on a hardcourt and winning was such a biggy!
It was the first meeting between Nadal, considered the sport's next superstar, and Agassi, who has won 60 tournaments, including eight grand slams and three wins in the Canadian event, in his 19-year career.

Top seed Maria Sharapova struggled to defeat Russian Maria Kirilenko Tuesday at the JPMorgan Chase Open in California.

Sharapova had not played since the semi-final appearance at Wimbledon. She was forced out of the Acura Classic in San Diego last week with a strained lower back.
Even though Sharapova triumphed in the first meeting with Kirilenko, the sloppyness was very obvious during the match.
