Setting a new world record is not a trivial matter. It takes a lot of hard work and determination. This is what transpired recently in the FINA World Championships. Wiped out during the swimming championship were not just one but four world records that were previously thought to last for several years still. But hey no, the new record setters were three Americans and an Italian. Americans were Michael Phelps, Natalie Coughlin and Aaron Peirsol; Federica Pellegrini from Italy.

Boxing champ Mike Tyson is known for being a trouble maker ... This time he got arrested for Driving Under the Influence & for drug possession!
Tyson was arrested in Arizona this morning after leaving a nightclub ... He was pulled over after his car nearly struck a sheriff's vehicle while leaving the club at about 1.45 am. Tyson was placed under arrest after 'showing more signs of impairment' during the field sobriety test. Police then found cocaine in his car & on him!

The two unlikely football teams made it into the final spot of the Asian Games in Qatar! Iraq and Qatar.
They’re both headed for a battle of the best on Friday for an all-Arab final when they meet for the cup!
Qatar entered the knock out round after a brilliant performance by Uruguayan-born Sebastian Soria in a 2-0 win over defending champions Iran, granting them their first spot in the finals.

Pacquiao-Morales Face-Off

Pacquiao and Morales are the hottest names today in the world of boxing. It’s face-off for the third time for these two ring fighters this coming Saturday November 18 in Las Vegas, Nevada. By the way Saturday’s bout will be a 12-round event to be broadcasted live on HBO per-per-view. If you want to watch it live at the Thomas & Mack Center you can purchase tickets at the Thomas & Mack box office.

Laila Ali

At present, boxing is now considered as one of the greatest sport. This is very evident in the recent bouts among excellent fighters. Its popularity has gained a lot of following. But that’s only usually about a boxing ring that men dominate. Maybe you’re tired of watching men deliver the punches on the ring. If you want something new, then how about a little dose of women’s boxing?

Well now after 35 years the name Ali will once again highlight the Madison Square Garden ring. This Saturday Muhammad Ali’s youngest daughter, Laila Ali will be one fighting in the heavyweight championship card. She is at present the most popular woman boxer in the world, garnering 22 wins, 19 knockouts and no losses in her 7 years in the boxing industry. Once again she’ll be showing her all in the bout with Saturday night opponent Shelley Burton who has a record of 8-2-1 since she’s made it pro in 2003.

Although 2016 seems a long time away, countries have already started to bid for hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics. The host city of 2016 will be announced in Copenhagen in 2009.
One hopeful country is Qatar.

Although many believe it will be in North America, some think that other countries may be able to impress the judges due to the speed of their development. Areas like, South America, Africa, Southeast Asia and the Middle East have never hosted the Olympics before but some 'rising star' countries might be able to change that.

The Patriots

The Patriots wins against the Minnesota Vikings with quarterback Tom Brady leading the team to 31-7 tally on Monday night. Tom Brady dominated the game with several touchdowns to four different receivers.

During the game his defense had four interceptions and four sacks. Needless to say that this game can be considered as one of the highlights in Tom Brady’s football career now as New England’s quarterback. Last Monday was spectacular show of both the defense and quarterback.

George Steinbrenner

George Steinbrenner is now back on his feet after having a health scare last Sunday while attending his granddaughter’s, Haley Swindal’s performance in the lead role of “Cabaret” at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.

This is actually the second time that the 76-year-old Yankees owner had a public incident regarding his health. The first one was back in 2003 where he passed out during the funeral of the famous football player Otto Graham.

Trevor Berbick

Trevor Berbick died a violent death that some say mirrored the way he lived his life. His body was found at 6:30 am in a churchyard at a village in Norwich, Jamaica. Based on the police report, Berbick appeared to have died from a massive cut to his head, which was probably caused by a machete. Reports have it, that he was last seen at a party earlier on the night of his death.

Lovers of boxing would almost certainly remember Trevor Berbick, the man who beat the great Muhammad Ali in the ring back in 1981. And 5 years after his win against Ali, he became the bearer of the World Boxing Council heavyweight title after beating Pinklon Thomas in the ring. In the whole duration of his career as a boxer he was able to garner a total of 50 wins including the 33 knockouts, 11 defeats and 1 draw. He was also the representative of his native country Jamaica 1976 Olympics, which was held in Montreal.

Maradona

In the Boca Juniors museum in Buenos Aires a 3-meter statue of bronze and cement will stand in honor of Argentinean soccer legend Diego Maradona. The cost of the statue will be on the burden of "fans" from all around the world. The idea to build the 300KG statue came from four friends who launched a website to campaign for the statue. Now they've done it.

German phenomena Michael Schumacher finally switched off his engine after finishing in fourth place at the Brazil Grand prix after surrendering what could have been his eighth title to Spanish sensation Fernando Alonso.

David Beckham

It’s not the best of times for English football legend David Beckham. He didn’t do well in the World Cup, he’s not on the English National team anymore thanks to new manager Steve McLaren and his Spanish club, Real Madrid hasn’t given him a regular position on the team.
There is some talk about his retirement circulating here and there although he’s said nothing of it.
Real Madrid president, Ramon Calderon, said that the former England captain will quit in two years. A claim that Beckham's spokesman dismissed.

"As far as I know he has decided to retire in two years' time," Calderon told BBC Radio Five Live.

Famous German Formula One driver Micheal Schumacher has announced that he will retire from the fast sport at the end of this season.
Schumacher began kart racing at the age of four and a half & obtained his first license and began racing competitively by the age of twelve.
He made his Formula One debut with the Jordan-Ford team at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix as a replacement driver for the imprisoned Bertrand Gachot.
