Tiger Woods proves himself once again as the king of the gold course as he takes home the cup for the 108th U.S. Open Playoff. This win is in fact Woods’ third U.S. Open title and this is the 14th championship he won throughout his golf career. He is now only four championships short from achieving the 18 championship record set by his childhood hero Jack Nicklaus. Woods made the win with the two-putt par from 20 feet on the 19th hole. He got this one over his opponent Rocco Mediate who missed the 20-foot par putt he had to make. Monday’s tournament was a close one, both Woods and Mediate put up a great fight until the last hole. And in the end it was Woods who triumphed.

Michelle Wie

There are only very few individuals who make it to golf amateur championship at a young age. Among the few are Michelle Wie who almost won an LPGA major when she was 13 and a PGA when she was 14. Wei made her professional debut in 2005 at the Samsung World Championship in 2005. But just lately her game has been not so good, besieged by criticisms, wrist injuries, poor public relations, missed cuts and two withdrawals. These are reasons enough to wipe the smile off anyone’s face right?

But Michelle now has another big reason to smile because she has finally come of age! She turned 18 on last Thursday. Yep she finally blew her 18 candles. It’s good because she’ll be in good spirits as she heads down for the Samsung World Championship. According to her, “I feel a lot better as a person. You know, I think that it will get better.”

This latest victory is another memorable one for Tiger Woods because it is the first one he’s made since the arrival of his beautiful daughter Sam.

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is Open champion for the second time. His mastery of the Old Course at St Andrews and of the world's leading players was an almost exact repeat of his performance here in the Millennium Open.

He dominated play throughout the four days of the Championship, opening with rounds of 66-67, then had to fight hard in tough conditions on the third day for a 71 before adding the final flourish with a 70 and a five-shot victory over Colin Montgomerie.

Woods played throughout with iron control, using his full power sparingly and preferring to target the safe areas away from the dangerous bunkers that pepper the Old Course. It was a well deserved victory.
