It was announced last Sunday that former world number one tennis player Maria Sharapova won’t make it to the Rogers Cup finals due to fatigue. She joined Wibledon champion Amelie Mauresmo, Justine Henin-Hardenne and former number one tennis player Venus Williams in the list of Roger Cup’s no-shows. Because of this Women’s Tennis Association decided to withhold $150,000 from Sharapova’s bonus given at the end of the season. Maria Sharapova, the 17-year-old Russian needed just over an hour to overpower Miho Saek and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Korea Open beating Miho 6-3, 6-1. Miho Saeki took a 3-1 lead in the first set, moving Sharapova around the court with some well-placed backhands and deft drop shots. But the Siberian teenager's strength became the decisive factor and Saeki only took one more game in the match.
