Rafael Nadal during Roland Garros

A new record is once again set during the French Open or Roland Garros Tournament, with Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal winning against Swiss player Roger Federer, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory. It certainly is a sweet victory for Nadal as he wins a three in a row French Open title. Nadal is the only player to do so after Bjorn Borg won three straight in 1980.

Both Nadal and Federer gave their best shots during the game with Federer launching aggressive attacks and Nadal just fending them with his own defensive strategy. Federer tried every strategy he knows – low backhand slices, net rushes, rapid-fire forehands and other combinations, but Nadal was at his element and wouldn’t be deterred from his focus.

Just like in every battle, disappointment is always present in the defeated. Federer said, “'I'm a bit sad and disappointed. I had my chances but Rafa is such a tough opponent…'It felt like I was always chasing him.”

Victory was Nadal’s after 3 hours and 10 minutes. On the conclusion of the game 21-year old Nadal fell down the red clay in happiness before climbing to the player’s box and getting congratulated for job well done by his coach, parents and Spanish Tennis Federation President Pedro Munoz.
