Katsusuke Yanagisawa Everest

If you’ve thought about what you’d be 20 or 50 years from now, what do you think you’d be doing? For sure it won’t be something like what Katsusuke Yanagisawa did at 71 because he just set a new record as the oldest man to conquer Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. Yanagisawa is a retired Japanese school teacher who was able to set this new record last Tuesday May 22. It’s an incredible feat that a man of his age is still able to accomplish what even the younger ones find hard to do.

At 71 years, 2 months and 2 days old, he was able to top the 29, 035 feet peak. He set a new record over another Japanese climber, Takao Arayama, aging 70 years, 7 months and 13 days when he reached the peak last year in May. Though Yanagisawa found it harder than what he expected, he still pushed through and reaped his reward as a new record holder.
