Howard Porter

Howard Porter, one of the considered icons in basketball died last Saturday night as a result of the beating he has suffered one week before. Howard Porter is one of the best players in Villanova history. Porter became well known by being a three-time All-American awardee at Villanova. In 1971 he also fronted the Wildcats to the 1971 NCAA championship game where they lost to the UCLA. The Chicago Bulls also recruited him in 1971 where he spent 3 seasons and then later played with the New York Knicks and the Detroit Pistons. Andjust when his career in basketball became so promising, everything slipped away when he began to use drugs.

Just when things seem to become hopeless, he turned his life around by his own will. He got a new life by becoming a probation officer over at Ramsey County in 1995. in his job he supervised adults who have been released from prison or sentenced to probation. He made sure that they follow the law and the terms of their release. When he turned his life around he became a source of hope and inspiration for those who led troubled lives.

His death is a big loss to those who look up to him. Nothing has yet been established about his death only that he died from the results of the beating, which he suffered. Minneapolis police are still waiting for report from the medical examiner with regards to the cause of death. Howard Porter died at age 58.
