Last night, AC Milan was crowned the Winners of UEFA 2007.
The man responsible is Filippo Inzaghi; who happens to be the very same man who was forced to sit out in the Finals in Istanbul two years ago, allowing Liverpool to win the Cup and raise it high.
Two years later, he was back and on the pitch making up for what happened. A goal in each half from him guaranteed that AC Milan will take their sweet revenge back at Liverpool, and most importantly get(ting) their hands back on the Cup. Filippo Inzaghi, is now the man responsible for AC Milan claiming the UEFA Cup for an extraordinary seventh time in Athens.
AC Milan and Liverpool delivered a brilliant and entertaining game. It all started solid, but eventually one had to take the lead.
With Ricardo Kaka being constantly marked and unable to perform to his usual standards. Inzaghi was left to try and figure things out by himself. Despite being the only player that was continuously at the front trying to produce the goals. It did not stop him.
The clear ambition, hope and desire of wining was witnessed in his performance. And that spread through to his fellow team players.
Having said that, Liverpool did not give up the game and continued to do their best. But Inzaghi’s influence that affected not just AC Milan, but also Liverpool, was obvious. The Cup was to fall back in the hands of AC Milan this year. And it surely did.
The funny part of this story is that no one expected this from Inzaghi. Looking back at where he was two years ago in comparison to now, is brilliant. Well done Inzaghi!!
And it doesn’t just end there for the football team AC Milan. Last night, the European Champion Clubs' Cup record book was re-written by the fantastic legendary Paolo Maldini. He has marked his name on the privileged elite group as the 10th Captain to raise the Famous Trophy more than once. Making him the 2nd (add “AC Milan player“) to Captain his team to two successes.
Congratulations!
It may all seem a perfect picture right now, but after postponing his knee operation, he will undergo it during Summer.
Wish him all the best.
