Despite ending his career with the head-butt of the century, Zinedine Zidane was nominated for this year's FIFA World Player of the Year award.
FIFA released its shortlists of 20 women and 30 men in contention for the two annual awards honoring its best players where coaches and captains of men's and women's national teams around the world will be eligible to vote.
Zidane, the former captain of France, was ejected during the World Cup final against Italy for butting Marco Materazzi in the chest. Zidane was red-carded and Italy won the title on penalty kicks.
Italians Fabio Cannavaro and Andrea Pirlo, who were named the World Cup's best players along with Zidane, also were nominated. They will have to beat Brazil's Ronaldinho (the guy who did nothing cool), the winner for the last two years.
The winners will be chosen from those finalists and presented with the awards at Zurich, Switzerland, on Dec. 18.

zidane dosn't deserve to win. the ones that deserve 2 win this award are Fabio Cannavaro & Alessandro Del Piero & if they give it 2 zidane it's because they feel sorry for him,such a looser
Zizou should receive the award. Zidane carried the French to the Finals in 2006; they wouldn't have qualified without him. He was the Coolest Man in existence for a good two weeks. Even cooler than Bob Dylan. Zidane: Player of the Year!
